Cone Mirrors

Cone Mirrors are manufactured from a suitable substrate dependent on application, usually BK7 or equivalent  or quartz. One end is ground and polished into a cone, much like a rocket nosecone or pencil tip and the other end ground flat. This tip is coated with a reflective coating, such as aluminium or gold dependent on wavelength you are working at. Custom cone mirrors are used, for example, to produce 360° illumination when light is directed toward the cone and is reflected into a circular plane with the rod lens at its centre. Another use is to allow for 360° surveillance of an area by directing the observable scene onto a suitable imager.
Yutai Optics’s Cone Mirrors are made from BK7 or equivalent optical glass and are used for 360 degree illumination applications. The cone surface is coated with protective aluminium.
